Are you fascinated by the human body, curious about how diseases develop, or dreaming of a career in medicine? The Pre-Med Foundations summer course at the International Summer School for Teens (ISSFT) in Oxford, UK, is designed for international students aged 13–18 who want to explore the world of healthcare and medical science while also improving their English language skills.
This hands-on pre-medical summer programme gives teenagers an in-depth introduction to what it means to work in medicine. Students study the human body, investigate how diseases affect us, learn about medications and treatments, and solve real-life medical cases through interactive teamwork and discussions — all in an immersive English-speaking environment.
A highlight of the course is the Mock Hospital Challenge, where students apply their new knowledge in simulated clinical scenarios, making ethical decisions and working collaboratively like real doctors. Alongside academic study, participants receive guidance for UCAT preparation, helping them take early steps toward future medical school applications.
By studying medicine in English, students naturally enhance their scientific vocabulary, communication, and presentation skills, gaining the confidence to express complex ideas clearly and effectively — an essential advantage for future university and professional settings.
Whether you’re exploring a future career in medicine or simply passionate about science and problem-solving, this course offers a unique combination of academic challenge, language development, and international collaboration.
