ISSFT Review of the Year: A Summer of New Beginnings
Every organisation has a year that reshapes its future — for ISSFT, that year was 2025. With new campuses at Worcester College, University of Oxford, and the launch of the St Andrews Summer Programme, this summer marked a moment of reflection, growth, and renewed academic ambition for international teenagers studying in the UK.
This landmark year brought together new academic environments, expanded opportunities, and a truly global student community, reinforcing ISSFT’s position as a leading UK summer school for international teenagers.
Published as part of ISSFT’s 2025 programme reflections following the conclusion of the summer sessions.
A New Chapter at Worcester College, University of Oxford
One of the most significant developments of 2025 was ISSFT’s first summer programme at Worcester College, University of Oxford. Set within one of Oxford’s most historic and visually striking colleges, Worcester provided an exceptional academic setting that complemented ISSFT’s focus on intellectual curiosity, structured learning, and personal development.
From the moment students arrived, the college environment played a central role in shaping the experience. The combination of historic architecture, peaceful gardens, and modern facilities created a scholarly atmosphere that supported focused study while allowing students to experience daily life within one of the world’s most renowned university cities. For many students, this immersion offered valuable insight into what future university study in Oxford or similar institutions might feel like.
Launching the St Andrews Summer Programme
Alongside Oxford, 2025 also marked the launch of the St Andrews Summer Programme, representing a thoughtful evolution in ISSFT’s long-term development. After ten successful years in Stirling, the move to St Andrews was driven by a desire to further enhance the student experience across accommodation, facilities, and academic inspiration.
St Andrews offered exceptional ensuite accommodation, outstanding sports facilities, and a unique academic setting shaped by centuries of educational tradition. Its global reputation, combined with its close-knit university environment, provided an inspiring backdrop for learning and personal growth. The location also offered unparalleled access to the Home of Golf, adding a distinctive dimension to the programme for students with sporting interests.
The transition to St Andrews proved to be a successful step forward, strengthening the overall programme offering while honouring the foundations built during ISSFT’s time in Stirling.
A Truly Global Summer Community
Across both Oxford and St Andrews, ISSFT welcomed students from over 90 nationalities, creating a diverse and inclusive international summer school environment. Teenagers from across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Americas, and beyond came together to study, collaborate, and build friendships in a shared academic setting.
This global mix is a defining feature of the ISSFT experience. Students not only develop academic skills, but also gain cultural awareness, confidence, and independence through daily interaction with peers from different backgrounds. The friendships formed during the summer often continue long after students return home, reflecting the lasting impact of a truly international community.
The People Behind the Experience
Central to the success of the 2025 programmes was ISSFT’s dedicated team of staff. Academic tutors, elective coaches, pastoral leaders, and activity teams worked closely to ensure that students felt supported, challenged, and engaged throughout their stay.
From classroom teaching to residential life, staff played a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and encouraging environment. Their expertise and commitment ensured that students could focus on learning, personal growth, and making the most of their summer experience in the UK.
Looking Ahead
As ISSFT reflects on 2025, there is a strong sense of pride in what has been achieved — not only in the successful launch of new campuses, but in the continued strength of the global community that defines the programme. With Oxford and St Andrews now firmly established as ISSFT’s twin programme locations, the organisation looks ahead with confidence.
Future summers will continue to build on the foundations of academic excellence, international connection, and meaningful personal development that have shaped ISSFT’s journey so far. 2025 will be remembered as a pivotal year — one that opened new doors and set the stage for an even brighter future.
