How to Prepare for the November IB Exams
Practical tips, calm confidence, and ISSFT-style study success
As November approaches, IB students around the world are gearing up for one of the biggest milestones of their academic journey: the International Baccalaureate (IB) final exams. Whether you’re revising in a library, a café, or between classes, good preparation is about more than memorisation — it’s about strategy, balance, and mindset.
At the International Summer School for Teens (ISSFT), we help students develop the study skills and exam strategies that lead to long-term academic confidence. Here’s how to make the most of the final few weeks before your exams:
1. Make a Realistic Study Plan
✔︎ Break down each subject into clear, daily goals.
✔︎ Prioritise topics that need extra attention — not just the ones you enjoy.
✔︎ Include rest days to avoid burnout.
✔︎ Try 45-minute focus sessions followed by 10-minute breaks for maximum efficiency.
2. Use Active Revision Techniques
✔︎ Summarise key ideas on flashcards or sticky notes.
✔︎ Teach concepts aloud as if you’re explaining them to someone else.
✔︎ Practise with past IB papers — the best way to understand mark schemes and question styles.
✔︎ Combine mind maps, flowcharts, and short notes for visual recall.
3. Master Time Management in Exams
✔︎ Simulate exam conditions — practise timing each question.
✔︎ Spend the first 5 minutes reading through the paper carefully.
✔︎ Don’t get stuck on one question; move on and return later.
✔︎ Always leave a few minutes to check your answers and calculations.
4. Balance Study with Self-Care
✔︎ Sleep 7–8 hours a night — tired minds forget fast.
✔︎ Stay hydrated and eat steady, energy-boosting meals.
✔︎ Exercise or walk daily to clear your head.
✔︎ Take short breaks for music, journaling, or catching up with friends.
5. Remember: Exams Don’t Define You
The IB is challenging — but it’s also a learning experience that builds resilience, discipline, and independence. Your score is one part of your journey, not the whole story.
At ISSFT, we see every student’s potential far beyond grades. Our Academic English, Global Leadership, and Study Skills classes are designed to strengthen critical thinking, exam technique, and confidence — skills that help teens succeed not only in the IB, but throughout school, university, and life.
So take a deep breath, plan your time wisely, and trust your preparation. You’ve got this.
ISSFT Top Tip:
When you’re finished studying, step away from the books. Go for a walk, enjoy a cup of tea, or watch something that makes you laugh. A calm, clear mind performs best on exam day.
