Celebrating St Andrew’s Day: Scotland’s Spirit of Friendship and Discovery
Every 30 November, Scotland celebrates St Andrew’s Day — a time for music, storytelling, and national pride. It’s a day that captures the warmth and welcome that Scotland is known for — and the same spirit that our students experience every summer at the International Summer School for Teens (ISSFT) in St Andrews.
A Celebration of Scottish Values
St Andrew’s Day honours Scotland’s patron saint, known not only for his kindness and compassion but for his openness to others — values that echo through Scottish culture today. The day is marked by ceilidh dancing, bagpipes, and the flying of the Saltire, Scotland’s blue-and-white flag.
At ISSFT St Andrews, that same openness defines our community. Students from more than 80 countries come together to learn, share, and celebrate what makes them unique — forming friendships that reflect the inclusive spirit of Scotland itself.
✔︎ A celebration of diversity and connection
✔︎ A safe, welcoming environment for all
✔︎ Learning that goes beyond the classroom
Learning in the Home of Tradition and Innovation
St Andrews is more than just a beautiful seaside town; it’s a global symbol of learning and discovery. Home to Scotland’s oldest university and the birthplace of golf, it combines deep academic roots with a spirit of innovation — exactly the balance we bring to our programmes.
Students studying here don’t just attend classes — they live history. Whether exploring medieval streets, practising sport near the Old Course, or discussing global ideas in our classrooms, every moment at ISSFT connects the past to the future.
✔︎ Academic excellence inspired by centuries of scholarship
✔︎ Outstanding sports and arts electives
✔︎ Immersive experiences in a world-renowned location
A Global Family in a Scottish Home
For many of our students, St Andrew’s Day becomes a symbol of belonging — a reminder that Scotland’s strength lies in its welcome. It’s a home for thinkers, explorers, and friends from every corner of the globe — just like ISSFT.
As we celebrate Scotland’s national day, we celebrate what makes ISSFT special too: a world in one place, united by learning, laughter, and the promise of new adventures.
