IB Extended Essay At ISSFT

Overview

This class will support high schoolers who want to prepare for their IB Extended Essay during the summer.

Students will develop their understanding of research methodologies, how to work to a timetable and the strategies required to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of their topic. Students will spend time understanding how to structure their essay. This will include developing a suitable title, research skills, critical analysis, thoughtful discussion and evaluation, and how to write their essay effectively.

Working in small groups, classes will cover

  • Practical writing skills: comparing, contrasting, defining, elaborating, describing, and learning how to structure and write an essay in an academic context
  • Reading with purpose and developing related critical thinking skills
  • Sourcing: how to use the library, plagiarism, referencing and academic integrity
  • Understanding the expectations and assessment criteria for the IB Extended Essay
  • Learn how to create an outline
  • Break down the assignment
  • Research and referencing
  • Creating a sound first draft
  • Self-reflection
